Short-stay Visa Waiver for Seychellois to travel to Europe

In August 2009 the Short-stay Visa Waiver agreement was signed between Seychelles and the European Union. As a result Seychellois can now travel to EU / Schengen Member States for short-stay purposes (up to three months in a six months period). The agreement covers all EU Member States EXCEPT for UK and Ireland (as they do not form part of the EU Common Visa Policy).

Note that these include:

-      the Schengen Member States: Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Greece, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Malta;

-      the Member States which do not yet fully apply the Schengen agreement (therefore not yet part of the Schengen area without internal borders): at present: Cyprus, Romania and Bulgaria.

The Agreement does NOT apply to Switzerland (although it is now a fully Schengen association State) and other European (non-EU) countries that are in the process of Schengen association States (i.e. Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein). In the spirit of the Agreement, Seychelles is being encouraged to conclude similar bilateral agreements with these countries.

It is ALSO important to note that the visa waiver agreement is subject to the entry and stay conditions laid down in the laws of the individual EU Member States and in the laws of Seychelles (these may include conditions such as a valid visa or travel document, a return ticket, proof of sufficient financial means to support one’s stay, etc…).
